THIS OLD HOUSE Host to Kick off Builder Blitz 2012

Categories: Community Involvement, Uncategorized | Posted: May 17, 2012 | No Comments »

Grant & Company will join five other Memphis home builders in welcoming Steve Thomas, former host of the home improvement shows, This Old House and Renovation Nation, to Memphis on June 4 when the Emmy-winning television personality participates in the kickoff of Habitat for Humanity International Home Builders Blitz 2012.

Steve Thomas, former host of THIS OLD HOUSE

Grant is one of six home builders in Memphis who has stepped up to accept the challenge of building five homes in five days for Habitat for Humanity in the Trinity Park neighborhood in Memphis. The Memphis Area Home Builders Association has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to make this project possible.
The nationwide project calls for the construction of more than 200 homes for needy families nationwide; 63 of those homes will be built across Tennessee.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Memphis Habitat has built 400 homes in the Memphis area since its founding in 1983 and funded the construction of 59 homes abroad. Habitat houses are built with volunteer labor and sold to partner families, at no profit and with no interest charged. Partner families make a down payment and invest hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” into the construction of their homes and other Habitat homes.
“It is a way for us to play forward all the blessings we have received over the years,” said Kim Grant Brown, owner of Kim Grant Homes and a member of the Grant & Company family of home builders. “We are happy to be a part of this exciting project. We are thrilled to be able to help a family achieve the American dream – homeownership.”

Grant & Co. Homes Feature Rivertree Hardwood Floors

Categories: New Option & Upgrades | Posted: March 19, 2012 | No Comments »

All Grant & Company new homes are built with quality products using superior craftsmen – including the hardwood flooring installed by Rivertree Hardwood.
Unlike products used in older homes, today’s hardwood is environmentally friendly. “Hardwood today comes from managed forests planted specifically for the purpose of harvesting the wood,” said Steve Cooksey, owner of Rivertree Hardwood in Memphis. “Wood for flooring is just like other crops – with a longer growing season. Because of modern forest management, there are more trees in the US today than there were 50 years ago.”
For the allergy-prone, hardwood flooring is a good choice since it won’t trap dust and allergens. Hardwood is also easy to maintain. Rivertree Hardwood recommends cleaning hardwood by placing a cup of vinegar in a gallon of water. Place the mixture in a spray bottle and lightly spritz a mop before each cleaning.
Hardwood flooring is beautiful and smart. According to the National Wood Flooring Association, hardwood may seem more expensive, but in fact, hardwood flooring generally last almost 30 years, while carpet lasts less than half that amount of time. Many modern hardwood floors are coated at the factory with special finishes that create one of the hardest, longest lasting finishes that can be applied to floors.
Grant & Company offers many different Rivertree hardwood floors in our Design Center. From narrow plank to wide plank, from light, natural looking finishes to the warm, rich look of hickory – Grant has a floor to suit your lifestyle. Hardwood flooring is available in all Grant neighborhoods throughout the Mid-South.

If you are thinking about a new home…Consider this!

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: February 8, 2012 | No Comments »

Contrary to what you may see in the evening news, new home sales are actually UP in all Grant & Co. neighborhoods in Shelby County, TN and DeSoto County, MS. And, we are excited about what’s happening in our neck of the woods.
Things have definitely changed in the new home sales business over the past couple of years, but that doesn’t mean that the changes have all been bad. Our buyers are finding out that now is a great time to build a new home compared to other housing opportunities they are looking at.
We all know that interest rates are at an all-time low, and that is a positive thing, but there are other reasons to consider buying a new home, according to Trulia, a premier home sales website. Let’s take a look at some of them.
1. Value. Homebuyers looking for more value tend to be more cautious in their home purchase than they were maybe a few years ago. If you’re investing your hard earned money, you want to make sure you’re in an area that offers a high quality of life and offers a good resale opportunity. At Grant, we see homebuyers who are looking for a neighborhood with lifestyle amenities- a place where they can get to know their neighbors, entertain friends and family, and have memorable experiences. Homebuyers have been paying more attention in recent months in finding not only the “right price”, but what’s equally important is finding the “right home” and the right neighborhood.
That’s why our newest neighborhood in Arlington, Kensington, features a community swimming pool, walking trails and play spaces. Our Active Adult 55+ neighborhood in Lakeland, Sterling Place, is gorgeous with its lakes, fountains, walking trail, and gazebo. These amenities not only can be enjoyed by the homeowner for years, but can also add to the resale value of the home.
2. Feeling of Security. All Grant homes are located in quality planned communities, which can help give homebuyers a feeling of security. When asked what people look for when they shop for a new home, many say they’re looking for a sense of community. Planned communities help provide the lifestyle that makes a house a home. The statement entry helps give a sense of arrival, a creative land plan allows for recreational areas and slower traffic. A more attractive streetscape is accomplished through unique and distinctive architectural guidelines, enhanced landscaping and, of course, our quality team of homebuilders. All Grant neighborhoods have protective covenants that also protect value and help control the overall look and feel of our communities. New homebuyers also gain a sense of security through Grant’s One Year Builder Warranty and various manufacturing warranties. It’s less out-of-pocket expense for the homeowner.

The Grant Family of Home Builders

3. Reputable Homebuilders. Grant & Co. is a family-owned, family operated business that has been building new homes throughout the Mid-South for more than 60 years – non-stop. Grant builds model homes in most neighborhoods to feature options and upgrades that are available to homebuyers and to present an idea of what the neighborhood is all about. Grant is also one of the few builders to maintain a good inventory of homes under construction.
